This free on-line training will provide an overview of the expansion of immigration detention in the U.S. and discuss what different forms of alternative to detention models have been used in the U.S. with varying success rates. The presentation will outline steps necessary to implement alternatives to detention on a broad level, including highlighting changes that must occur to the current legal framework in order for alternatives to be a meaningful way of curbing the expansion of immigration detention.

This training is appropriate for individuals who want an introduction to alternatives to detention as well as individuals who are knowledgeable about alternatives and are interested in brainstorming long and short-term solutions and/or engaging in program development and advocacy as part of the newly formed DWN Alternatives Action Team. The Action Team is open to all DWN members and will be meeting via conference call in mid-September to discuss a positive strategy.

Now, more than ever, as ICE steps up raids and detentions, it is critical that we advocate for Alternatives! Please join us!
