Detention Watch Network offers this statement in solidarity with the Stop Cop City movement. As a coalition, we seek to abolish the inhumane and unnecessary immigration detention system. We understand that institutions of policing, military operations, jails, prisons, and detention facilities are interconnected, within the United States and globally. We will not tolerate attempts to expand any of these violent institutions and instead demand that we divest from these cruel systems and invest in the wellness of our communities.
The city of Atlanta has leased 381 acres of Weelaunee Forest, stolen Muscogee land, to the Atlanta Police Foundation for a police military training facility funded by corporations. In response to courageous resistance from activists, the state is employing alarming tactics of repression, intimidation, and violence. We have already seen the brutal murder of Manuel “Tortuguita” Terán, the abuse and arrest of protestors and activists, the arrest of members of the Atlanta Solidarity Fund which provides jail support and bail funds, and the brutal arrest and transfer of indigenous activist Victor Puertas to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) custody at the notorious Stewart Detention Center. When any of us is threatened by state repression, we are all at risk. We have no choice but to resist this state violence and persevere in our collective fights for liberation. At DWN we wage campaigns to shut down detention centers, defund ICE, and free people from detention. We act in solidarity with other abolitionist struggles, including the powerful Stop Cop City movement.
As the Detention Watch Network, we demand the following:
- Stop Cop City
- Free Victor
- Free all political prisoners
- Drop the charges
- Shut Down Stewart Detention Center (GA)
- Shut Down all ICE Detention Centers
- Free Them All

Detention Watch Network ofrece esta declaración en solidaridad con el movimiento Stop Cop City. Como coalición, buscamos abolir el inhumano e innecesario sistema de detención de inmigrantes.
