Abolition Allies are individuals who want to contribute to and actively engage in Detention Watch Network’s efforts. Abolition Allies contribute financially on a yearly basis to access to certain DWN benefits and information while also helping to strengthen and build the network.
Benefits
- Stay in the loop: receive regular updates from DWN, including action alerts. Option to join the DWN member and/or general listservs.
- Build knowledge and skills: get resources such as trainings, messaging guides, backgrounders, and policy briefs to strengthen your analysis.
- Collaborate: connect with organizations and individuals both in your community and at the national level.
Note: In most cases, Abolition Allies are not invited to join DWN’s member conference or member calls, which are focused on organizational members and directly impacted leaders.
Member + Ally Code of Conduct
Detention Watch Network expects members and allies to demonstrate the following behavior:
- Respect for everyone’s identity, background, experiences, expertise, skills and unique role
- Willingness for personal growth by allowing yourself to challenge and be challenged by others in a candid and caring manner
- Offer thoughtful feedback to DWN staff so that we can continue to grow and improve
- Proactively engage within the Network by offering your experiences, expertise and thoughts within DWN spaces (meetings, member calls, the listservs)
- Be accountable for your actions
Requirements To Join
- You are currently or are looking to be actively engaged in immigration detention work.
- You can commit to donating at least $100 per year (or $30 for low-income individuals, students, community organizers, and individuals at risk of detention).
- You are willing to adhere to DWN’s code of conduct while participating in DWN spaces, including the listservs.
