Freedom, opportunity, and dignity should be at the core of our immigration system. But our current system isn’t set up to uphold these values. Instead, people are deprived of their liberty, separated from their loved ones, and excluded from their communities by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP). Currently detained immigrants and people seeking asylum are at grave risk of contracting COVID-19, due to systemic abuse within the immigration detention system including lack of vaccination. Despite campaign promises, the number of people in detention has increased significantly since President Biden took office; community members continue to be arrested and detained by ICE for deportation.

As communities continue to push for affirmative relief and a path to citizenship, we also need urgent action from the Biden adminstration to:

  • demand an end to deportations,
  • shut down detention centers,
  • and to call for release of all people in immigration detention.
